Will "uke" help me provide a string instrument for my students? During music class, students learn about the instrument families. As part of my string unit this year, I hope to have my students learn to play a real string instrument! While learning about string instruments, students learn how science and music are connected. My students would use the ukulele as a tool for learning about vibrations, beat, harmony, melody, rhythm, and tempo, while also strengthening fine motors skills such as hand eye-coordination and independent movement of fingers. I would love to make this unit hands on and exploratory for all my students and providing a class set of ukuleles would make this possible for them!
