Living in the city of Selma, the heart of civil rights our children walk history. Instead of doing our normal units during the month of February, our fifth grade would love to explore the popular story "Hidden Figures" redone for young readers. "There are quite a few women working in the space program." -Dorothy Vaughan. The story of three women, Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson talks about issues of racism, sexism and so much more. The process of having a month-long theme surrounded by the book "Hidden Figures" will allow our fifth grade to discuss these issues with a centralized focus. At the end of the month, students will engage in a month-long group project.
