Since the begin of my journey to becoming an educator, promoting diverse stories in the classroom has been a top priority. I think it is important for students of all backgrounds and races to see examples in literature that represent them, and that are different from them. It is my commitment to promote social justice and equity in my classroom and that starts with the books we read. This is my first year teaching, and although we started virtually, in two short weeks I'll have students in my classroom- I want my students to fall in love with reading. I think holding a book in their hands, a book that is at their level and engages their interest, is the best way to promote a love of reading. I have purchased several books for my classroom with my own money but I have a wide range of reading levels in my class and want to make sure I have books at many different reading levels that will appeal to my students.
