Providing appropriate instructional tools is challenging to teachers working with special needs. Educators have to be creative and resourceful to be able to produce and utilize instructional materials while ensuring its educational value in terms of addressing short-term and long-term learning objectives. A number of activities should be explored to help students of various learning styles, strengths, and weaknesses. For math, manipulatives are frequently used to represent concepts in concrete level during lesson introduction before eventually moving to semi-abstract and abstract levels. I am a teacher who witnessed the effectiveness of using technology in Math class. During my preparation for distance teaching, I found a number of virtual manipulatives and other math-related applications in the website but not readily available as I am using my District-issued laptop, which results in the following issues: 1) software not compatible with Windows or 2) can't be installed because it requires admin. rights. I'm planning to use it as my main laptop for work so I can install other applications and use my personal phone as a document scanner to demonstrate students how to answer learning packets at home (esp. during distance learning). Also, it is equipped with tons of tools for marking or making annotations on student's work, sharing them with other devices/ applications, and organizing student data. Lastly, having an iPad to help me with those tasks would definitely increase my time for instructional planning to target my students' learning needs and IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals. I am excited to enhance my students' learning experience through a technology-infused Math classroom. There are tons of apps (for tutorial, simulations, drill-and-practice etc.) to explore though... and I'm ready for it! Thank you in advance for your support.
