Kids love reading biographies because they like to relate their lives to famous people's lives. Reading about people who actually survived and overcame obstacles reinforces perseverance and inspire children to work hard for their goals. Reading biographies bring up some difficult subjects like discrimination, women's rights, and slavery, just to name a few, so they can be discussed during lessons. These discussions can encourage a sense of class community. I will send these biographies home so the student can share the book with their families if they want to do that.
