As a teacher, preparing today's students for jobs sometimes not even created yet is quite an exciting challenge! Incorporating 21st century technology is a critical component to students' success. The low cost and high value of Chromebooks for education is a no-brainer, according to "The Economic Value of Chromebooks in Education." The article reads..."a big issue with education- particularly American education- is a lack of funding. Expecting a school to afford all the latest, greatest top-of-the-line laptops and desktops is very difficult. Chromebooks are comparatively significantly cheaper, all while offering all the main features needed in a classroom, plus features that enhance the classroom experience via GSuite." The article continues, "GSuite assists the classroom experience in its own way by offering sharing and collaboration suites on Google Drive. Unlike other office solutions frequently consulted in schools, Google Drive allows real-time collaboration and, due to its cloud-hosted nature, allows students and teachers alike to access it anywhere, whether they're at home or at school. Chrome OS is a vessel for GSuite- this Apps benefit education greatly if used properly, making Chromebooks for education a good match for yet another reason." Ultimately, my goal is for each student to have his or her own Chromebook. But, since that adds up quickly for 25 or so students ($200ish x 25 = $5000), five Chromebooks will at least get things started! Thank you for your consideration in helping my motivated, hard-working students by affording them similar technological resources as if they were attending a more affluent school. All students, no matter their background, deserve equity in educational opportunities.
