The books will be used to upgrade my classroom library and read aloud selection so that my students can experience more culturally diverse literature. These complex and rich texts will lead to valuable discussions, help to strengthen our classroom community, allow all students to see themselves represented in literature we read, and allow students to gain perspectives and understanding about others different from themselves. A strong sense of community is gained when all students feel represented, valued, and heard. I believe these books will help to accomplish this goal for my wonderful and diverse group of learners.

About my class
