Flexible seating enhances the learning experiences for all students within the classroom. I have chosen to utilize these resources to promote student choice, engagement, and to strengthen their independent problem-solving skills. Flexible seating empowers and encourages students to make choices that best fit their own needs. Most students need comfort, movement, and or a more calm space to do their best thinking and to stay alert. During independent work time, students would be able to move around the classroom and choose a "just right spot" where they can stay calm, focused, and productive. Flexible seating allows for students to also continue to build community and collaboration skills. Students will practice taking turns in different locations to support each others needs and to equally share their classroom environment. In addition, having a variety of seating options means that there would be different ways to engage students in small group work, pairs, projects, and one-on-one conferencing.
