I have the amazing opportunity of working with students, some of whom are on the autism spectrum. Many of our students have significant difficulty with their speech and language skills. They are gifted, kind, and eager to learn. During the COVID-19 pandemic, students were required to participate in speech sessions online, which impacted their ability to effectively be engaged and participate in speech and language activities, as well as not being able to practice these skills with other peers. Many students had a hard time with technical difficulties and did not have internet access leading to many absences. The games and toys funded through this DonorsChoose project will give students an opportunity to interact with their peers and providers all while being fully engaged.
