Many of my students are visual learners when it comes to physics. Being able to draw out the components of force or creating models helps bring the ideas and concepts to life for them. In addition, maintaining visual contact with my students helps me with pacing and reinforcing key concepts, providing me with clues if they are struggling or on task. With our virtual teaching environment, it is difficult to do both well with the technology we have now with a Chromebook.
With a Apple iPad to serve as a whiteboard, I will be able to give my students the visual learning aids they desire and allow me to stay in visual contact with my students.
This gift will enable better delivery of content and reduce some of the trade off we have of doing virtual teaching. Even when we come back into class, the iPad will continue to serve its purpose as I can still use it as a virtual whiteboard thru our class projector to make the images larger and more discernable than using the whiteboards in front of the class, allowing students even at the rear of the class to see the images and read the words to enable better learning to occur.
