Non-verbal students need a way to express their needs, make choices, answer questions and to socialize. Finding ways for my students to communicate is the single most important skill I can give them. I have visual schedules made from photos to help them with transitions. I use pictures and talkers pertaining to what is being discussed in learning activities for the students to answer comprehension questions, make choices and share their thoughts. I have talkers and pictures scattered around the room for my students to access. The batteries keep them working and accessible. Having the ability to communicate is the key to limiting frustration and promotes the well being of all individuals. Everyone deserves to have a voice.
