I would like to instill in my students the practice of drawing regularly and keeping a sketchbook. A majority of them will be learning from home for at least part of the year, with a possibility of all of my students going virtual at some point. I would like for them to have a sketchbook, drawing supplies, and some watercolor pencils so that they can continue to grow as art students even if they are learning from home. Drawing is the backbone of visual communication. Even when my students are working on a sculpture, I have them start with a drawing. This school year seems like a great time to focus on drawing and a sketchbook would provide a place to create.
