My students can never get enough of Who was and What was type books. They love to read up on historical figures. We also read about different topics throughout the school year and I will pull a book from our classroom library and we will read some small blurbs about people we are interested in. This year, we are studying about the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, as well as, The Salem Witch Trials. However, when we have time left, I will often pull out books about Abraham Lincoln and how he worked to free slaves. My students will read at least 2 nonfiction books per quarter. I would like to have a larger variety of resources for them to choose a nonfiction topic that best suits their interests.
