I believe to educate a student means to empower them holistically. By fostering a learning environment full of love, self reflection, real life application, and culturally relevant pedagogy, students can and will obtain scholarly excellence. For this to occur, students must have access to a variety of resources and materials to awaken the genius from within. That begins with a print rich environment. Reading is the gateway to knowledge; it teaches students to lend a ear to the words of others, while discovering the power of their own voice. Each item being requested will aid in providing enrichment around the love of literacy, and maintaining a positive mindset. I am requesting a variety of culturally relevant text to help my students connect to the voices and stories being shared. These text will also aide in facilitating an environment rich in discussion and collaboration connected to current events that impact their community. Additionally, I am requesting a variety of resources related to mindfulness. Social emotional learning is a vital component of holistic growth. The materials being requested will help students learn healthy social skills while teaching tangible strategies on how to effectively deal with challenges that may arise.
