Art has always been fluid and flexible. Our students create with many different media. At our school we have added a digital art class to help prepare our students for future careers and college level programs in the digital arts. We have previously taught this in small groups within a traditional art classroom. The popularity of using iPads and Apple Pencils to create original, inspiring, beautiful works of art has increased the popularity of the media in our school.
Kids requested a year long course just in digital media, we listened, and we met their demand. However, we currently have only 11 iPads and Apple Pencils for students to use. This limits the number of students who can enroll. Some may even have to share time. I am requesting an additional 5 iPads and 5 Apple Pencils so we can enroll more students in the digital drawing class.
During face to face instruction all my classes will have an opportunity to use them. I am worried about having to shift to virtual learning and my digital class not having access to devices they can continue their learning on. By adding the additional iPads and pencils, my students will be able to continue creating digitally. One may even become a Digital Picasso.
