My students are about to begin our brand new unit, To Kill a Mockingbird. A timely and topical unit, students will explore the concepts of racial inequality, and the importance of innocence, all while critically evaluating the world around them. As Atticus Finch once said, "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." Enter the investigation binders. Having these difficult topics to take on, I want my students to have a hands on learning experience by utilizing an interactive notebook that will require pulling evidence from the novel, applying their knowledge and thinking critically about not only the world of Scout, but the world in which they live. As my school does not have the budget for binders this year to house these wonderful notebooks, I would like to ask for 150 half inch binders for each of my students!
