This school year will come with unique challenges that we have not encountered before due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I will teach 55 fifth graders this upcoming fall. At that age, students are already facing emotional and developmental challenges, but now they will also continue to face an increase anxiety, stress, and grief due to the pandemic. Focusing on social emotional health has never been as important. The materials I have requested for this project will help students learn to cope and regulate their emotions to stay calm. I have included multiple sensory toys that can help relieve stress and are easily sanitized. I have also included the materials to create a peace corner that can be used as a safe environment where students can focus on self-regulating their emotions once school returns to normal.
