This school year will be different, but I want my students to still feel welcomed, excited, and ready to learn! With some changes in the building, due to COVID-19, a new classroom has inspired a new look for my room. Fluorescent lighting can be exhausting for the eyes and brain, causing headaches and over stimulation. Many students that will learn in my room have ADHD or other challenges. Studies have been completed that show an increase in hyperactive behaviors when using unshielded fluorescent lighting. These floor lights will help to reduce the stress of this lighting by allowing us to use natural light and less harsh lighting. The alternative seating with stools will allow my students to have some wiggle room. The liquid motion bubblers will serve the purpose as a timer and sensory tool when my students need time to recenter. They will benefit from using the comfy rugs when taking time in the Cozy Corner, used to de-escalate or take a break. Despite the challenges this year may bring, we are ready for good vibes only, so I would like to give everyone that reminder with a mat when they enter and leave the room! I'm excited to watch my students succeed this year and so grateful for any support that is provided!
