The majority of my students do not have access to books at home. They perceive books as a privilege. Their background knowledge is limited across the content areas. They need concrete materials to understand concepts across the curriculum. Some concepts I present through different materials to ensure mastery. The material I chose will allow me to create the foundation and create background knowledge. I strive to create opportunities to gain social and academic vocabulary through out the curriculum. In our classroom language is a gift. My students come in eager and ready to learn.
