With these books and magazines my students will feel important. They consider themselves “big” when they are reading by themselves. Think back when you started to read, and how excited you were to hold your own book. My kids love to come up to the author chair and read to the other students. Even if they do not get one word correct, all the students clap for them. It’s great!!! They love to sit around the room and read. I will also send the books home with them. The Scholastic News is for first graders. I will teach lessons from it during the week, because it shows the material on their level. They will not have to share with other students, and can take them home to share.
