When school closed suddenly last year, my students, their families and I were caught off guard. Many of my students did not have school supplies at home. It was hard to build structure at home, and parents were overwhelmed. I want to start this year by supporting families build more structure and create a more effective learning environment at home. I believe there are 17 students on my class list; but, usually we end up with more students by the end of September. Last year, I had 13 students on my list but ended up with 25. So, I would like to be prepared for at least 20 students. I will be filling the backpacks with supplies that my students would use during our virtual learning experience. One of the items in the backpack will be a stress ball. I will be using it for social-emotional learning exercises that would transfer to the physical setting of the classroom as well. The backpack will hold items they will need for school and help them be more organized. Supplies will not be scattered all over the house. They will not have to waste time to get up and search for materials. Students would pick up their backpack just like they were going to school and be better prepared for their learning!
