Growing up, part of the excitement that surrounded the first day of school was entering the class I would call my own for the next year, and admiring the bulletin boards and informational posters my teachers had put up around the room. Now that I am beginning my first year as a teacher, I realize how much time and money was put into creating that fun and inviting environment. Although I am filled with fresh ideas for both teaching and decorating, I find myself lacking the funds needed to bring them to life. As a brand new teacher, I am starting with a bare classroom and close to no supplies - these materials will not only help bring the classroom setting to life, but will also help students become more engaged in an active learning environment. The effects of the pandemic and at-home learning have been devastating to students' reading levels and retention. Studies have shown that a classroom that is visually appealing is much more likely to produce better academic results as opposed to one that is not - I plan to use these materials to turn my classroom into a literacy-rich environment that will foster reading growth in an efficient and enjoyable way.
