Parenting--the most demanding and rewarding job many of my students will ever have, and often the one they are least prepared for. School is a time to learn new skills and prepare for the future, and yet surprisingly one of the most difficult and important skills students may need is not taught--parenting. That is why we are adding a new class to our Family and Consumer Science Curriculum--Parenting and Child Development. One of my goals for this class is to provide students with the opportunity to practice parenting skills as realistically as possible. I am requesting a set of multicultural dolls and other baby essentials to create stations that students will rotate through; learning how to change a diaper, feed and burp a baby, swaddle and calm a newborn, give a baby a bath, dress a baby, install a car seat and more. By donating to my project you will be helping to prepare tomorrow's parents.
