My students attend school in a large urban school district in Wisconsin. They attend a traditional middle school, serving grades 6 through 8. My students come from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. The thing that binds them together is their love for, and strength in, reading. They love to read independently, in small literature circles, and as a large book club. All of my 38 students scored very high on standardized tests and classroom assessments. They are unable to find novels that are both challenging for them at the reading level and of high/relevant interest. Funding my project will allow students the opportunity to read and discuss such books/novels.
