Students will become more proficient readers if they are reading a text that interests them personally. In order to boost end-of-year test scores, I want to encourage my students that reading does not need to be generic unpalatable texts. English language arts is a challenging and abstract subject for middle schoolers to grasp. If students can read texts that directly relate to the diversity of their lives, their comprehension of a variety of texts will improve. Not only will their end-of-grade scores improve, but also students can become lifelong readers and writers.
