I have been teaching literature for 7 years, and more often than not, the required curriculum texts are overwhelming written by white authors. My school has a majority Black, African American and Latin(x)population. We also have a historically low literacy rate. I want my students to get excited about reading, and a big part of that is having literature that reflects and validates the scholars in the seats. With these books, we will be exploring the state literary standards as well as examining connection points to global and national events.

About my class
