Our school community has worked harder than ever to ensure we have a safe learning environment for all students. We have continued to afford our students the option of in person and remote learning. We have made a strong effort to include hands on activities that enable students to practice science in action while enriching their social emotional well being. This project, designing and painting science themed aprons, checks off all of those boxes. It will afford students a chance to make connections and review science content, be creative, and helps us put the A in STEAM. It also gives students time to socialize and reflect with their peers (something that we have found is lacking in our new norm of COVID-19 learning). Additionally, many of our students enjoy painting and have expressed how painting has helped them relax. Grade 6 students will use materials to create an apron that partners with our studies of the human body. Seventh graders will use materials to create an apron that partners with our environmental studies theme. Lastly, our grade 8 students will create aprons in correlation with our upcoming introduction to basic chemistry principles.
