Every day in our kindergarten classroom, my students will be learning how to distinguish one letter from another. Being able to physically manipulate letters enhances the opportunity to know and understand the physical make-up of the letter. Kindergarteners need to be able to take the abstract concept of a letter and make it concrete; having colorful and easy to clean plastic letters allows this to happen. Letter learning involves knowing a letter's name, sound, and physical features. I can hear my student's shouting, "I found the letter 'm'!" Can you hear them comparing how the letter "t" is a tall letter just like the letter "b, d, f, h, k, and l"? Letter learning is directly connected to creating readers and writers. Please help us!
