The old, traditional classroom arrangements do not work to provide students with collaborative and flexible learning lessons/methods. Students need to be able to move easily and work together in learning. All students learn differently and should be offered a place throughout the room where they feel most successful. Throughout the past few years, I have worked to turn my class into a flexible space, so I am looking to expand the variety--leading to excitement and a love of learning! (I am in need of more chairs for my current spaces) Teaching a variety of students in the middle school classroom creates a greater need for student choice. Students need the opportunity to select the area or type of seating that best meets their own, individual needs in our learning space. Today's middle school classrooms are diverse, and learning comes differently to every student, which is why classrooms need to meet the demands of differentiated lessons and provide flexibility in how students best learn. The blended learning materials offered on TPT will bring new and fresh ideas into remote and in-person reading lessons, while the Scholastic materials will provide relevant and relatable content and choice into my reading rotations! Students need a class arrangement that allows them to move around and collaborate with their peers! Imagine a space where readers are spread around the room, reading different books, focused on completing various engaging tasks, sharing ideas, and helping to teach one another! Student-centered classrooms are the NEW way of learning. This functional learning design will help kids be creative and be critical thinkers! Students in middle school need the opportunities to enjoy reading...this love of reading is so important for their future success in education. Help my students fall in love with reading...one seat and one book at a time.
