I teach third grade math. Using manipulatives is paramount when teaching most of the concepts for our grade level. Until this year, my 27th year, having enough manipulatives hasn’t been a problem. I’ve always had enough for one class. However, I teach three classes of students. Because of the pandemic, we are having to be diligent about sanitizing items that are touched. To protect my students and to reduce the amount of time taken away by sanitizing, I would like to give each student his/her own set of certain materials. Another reason for wanting individual sets is the possibility of having to go completely to virtual learning if Covid decides to pay us a visit. In this case, students would be able to take his/her set home to utilize while away from school. During this unprecedented time, I just want to make this is the best school year for my kiddos.
