I am requesting books on the American Revolution for an integrated Social Studies and Language Arts experience. Sharing the experience of being with George Washington and his troops during the Revolutionary War will be possible when my students join Annie, and her brother Jack, in the The Magic Tree House story that I have selected. I can't wait for my students to better understand the colonists' fight for liberty as they travel back in time to see a battle first-hand during this novel study. After reading this fictional account and completing a text analysis emphasizing several Social Studies standards and over 15 ELA skills, we will then read its paired non-fiction research companion. This second book gives many interesting facts and historical background, including key battles, figures, and major events of the American Revolution. We will use this chapter book as we research and study this important event in our nation.
