The decision to go digital was made in the best interests of our student safety. However, the structure of digital learning does neglect some more tangible aspects of education. What do you remember about middle school? I remember making a huge model of a Pops cereal box show I could inflate three-dimensional figures, I remember the girl in class who ALWAYS had the best poster board because she would cover it in fancy embellishments; I remember science experiments that turned pennies golden. That tactical relationship with schoolwork isn't the end-all-be-all, but for kids who really don't like reading online and want to HOLD a book again, they may find no suitable titles at home. They may be boring, or they've read it already, or there are no books at all! This book bundle would ensure I have a small, at-home library of books that I can deliver contactless to students. Imagine waiting at the window, 12 years old, your teacher pops out of her own car - you've only seen her on the screen before, you didn't know she was so tall - and leaves a small, wrapped book at your door. You open it to find a personalized note saying she hopes you enjoy the story, especially what happens on page 52... That book is going to be READ. That student knows their teacher CARES. That student sees that literature is for EVERYONE.
