My students have been working on improving their expressive, receptive, and social language skills during distance learning. This can be challenging at times and since we haven’t been able to meet in person my students have missed hands on language activities, structured conversations, and modeled play schemes.
I am hoping to get my students visual supports and materials to enhance sessions to help parents and students fully benefit from learning experiences.
Our new normal of learning via video and screens is not developmentally appropriate for young children. It is extra challenging for my students because they have a variety of disabilities and their individual needs are not met. Many of my students need increased visual supports to aid their communication and their parents need a coaching model that gives them ideas on how to utilize toys and materials in their homes. The materials I am requesting will aid me in this effort. The laminator, laminating sheets, Velcro, and ink will be utilized to make communication boards for my students. Books and toys will be used to model for parents how these common items can be used to promote requesting, commenting, and story telling throughout the day.
