Unfortunately, students are not allowed to share materials in class this year and many teachers like myself are purchasing school supplies for individual student use. As a science teacher, we require students wear safety glasses during any labs that require the use of chemicals or glassware. Although safety glasses can be sanitized using a UV lamp, our new shortened class periods will severely inhibit the ability of teachers to clean this necessary safety tool. If students were able to have their own lab glasses, teachers would have more flexibility to engage in lab activities and demonstrations that enhance student understanding of science topics.
