There is something magical about white boards. Whiteboards are a fun tool for engaging students and making them active learners in my classroom. We use this tool in all curricular areas. When I ask students to pull out their white boards, there is excitement that fills the air. It is not only fun for the students, but it is a helpful instructional tool for me too.
Whether it is completing a math problem or sorting spelling words by vowel sounds, their responses allow them to easily check their work along with that of their classmates. This also allows me to gauge everyone's understanding and assist those individuals who require additional help. In some instances, it informs me of my need to reteach a concept.
White boards became even more critical as we adjusted to distance learning. I was able to secure a white board for each student while using Zoom as my teaching platform at the end of last school year, and it was a game changer. I know the boards made a positive difference in students’ learning.
A majority of my students are low income and live in small spaces. Our current world crisis is impacting many of these essential working families both economically and physiologically, too. Jump ropes offer a great solution for helping reduce stress. They take up minimal space and allow students to set measurable goals, work towards mastery, get much needed physical activity and help them relieve the stresses of their every day lives.
This is my first DonorsChoose project, and I hope my students' project gets funded! Thank you for your consideration! Stay safe and be well.
