These materials will diversify my limited graphic novel collection, providing my sixth graders with a wide array of perspectives in a format they enjoy. My students are devouring graphic novels this year and adding these texts will keep them passionate about reading for months to come. The Sports Illustrated texts will appeal to my students who prefer a fast-paced short read, while White Bird will challenge my readers who wish to learn more about a historical time period. All will engage and excite these sixth graders. Finally, reading graphic novels provides students with a less overwhelming reading experience, but an equally comprehensive one. Students use text and images to make inferences, which is a skill they will need in almost every aspect of life.
