These inclusive and SEL centered books will help to enhance a rich literacy experience in my classroom. Focusing on responsive literature, the children will grow in life-long skills like understanding the fundamentals of equity, making self-to-world connections, and appreciating others' differences and themselves. Culturally responsive teaching is more than just an instructional choice but an adoption of a mindful perspective in this world. Books acts as mirrors and windows into children's lives. I specifically chose selections written and illustrated by Asian American authors to value the unique makeup of my class, as well as narratives usually untold by dominant children's literature. In a time that desperately calls for conversations surrounding race, care, and identity, these mentor texts grasp the importance of perspective. My classroom works to become a safe space for all my students.
