Starting first grade virtually will be a new adventure for my students. These young learners need hands on experiences to practice their math, reading and writing skills. These materials will help me create "learn at home kits" for my students allowing them to have the materials at home to practice their new skills. Kits will include math manipulatives, language arts journals, dry erase boards, and high quality headphones. Many of my students will be at child care during our virtual learning and the headphones will allow them to focus on lessons no matter where they are. Having access to these classroom materials at home will allow my students to have a quality first grade learning experience complete with the hands on learning that is so important to their success. Uniform supplies to home will help alleviate the inequity students may experience as a result of virtual learning. Students will have dry erase boards for practicing spelling and math, math racks for developing fluency, unifix cubes for counting and grouping, and quality headphones for listening to reading activities. Having these at home will let learning expand beyond the school day as students share their learning with family through these tools. This investment can make the difference between a student having a good year and a GREAT year.
