Our students come from a poor socioeconomic area. Over 95% of the students qualify for reduced lunch and struggle everyday with just simply getting enough to eat. But, they are extremely hard working and respectful. These students enjoy sports and use it as an alternative to gangs and violence. My students are surely not the best athletes at the school, they play football to be part of a tradition and embrace the team concept as another type of family. This developmental group is a special group because they love the game of football so much they are willing to put in extra hours of weightroom and conditioning just to get better. They know they probably will not play that much but with their work ethic and great attitude they are building valuable skills for the future. I always tell my students that I will help them with anything they need to help them be successful, they want new footballs! Our motto at Atwater is Academics and Athletics with Pride and Perfection, please help
