I want to bring yoga and mindfulness into my classroom. Doing this will help the students learn to self regulate, build community, and reduce stress. They will learn how to recognize feelings, notice without judgement, and do what is best for their bodies. We are going to incorporate a few minutes of yoga a couple times a week during class. The seated yoga book will help give me ideas to do with them because I do not have a lot of space in my classroom.
The students also need an area where they can go to self regulate themselves. This will be a meditation area. This is where the beanbag and the focus objects will be used. If a student is be disregulated, they can use this area to help regulate themselves. A beanbag will be a stimulus that will help students focus on their body and the input they are receiving. The poster will help remind the students what poses they can do to help themselves. The florescent light cover will help this area be more soothing for the students. This will help students stay on task and reduce behavior issues. Students can not stay here forever and the timer will help them understand they have only a few minutes in this area before they have to get back to work.
