Due to autism, all of my students have sensory input needs. Sometimes this looks like jumping, running, big hugs, or even laying down on something soft. No matter what, sensory breaks are needed throughout the day in order for my students to feel comfortable, safe, and happy. Gross motor items, such as pogo sticks, tricycles, balance boards, and more, challenge my students’ sensory needs and gives them a satisfying input that then allows them to feel calm and ready to learn! Due to Covid-19, we are trying our best to reduce the amount of time we spend traveling to other rooms in our school. Therefore, having gross motor items available to my students in our own classroom, where they can access them at any time, will greatly benefit their sensory, emotional, and academic experiences.
