My students love media exploration, as many have never had the opportunity to use anything other than colored pencils and markers. Due to COVID-19 we cannot share supplies, so each student will need their own kit of materials to use in the classroom and to take home in case of quarantines. Providing all my students with a sketchbook will guarantee that they all have paper to draw on, no matter what supplies they have access to at home. Many of my students do not have access to art materials or blank paper. A sketchbook makes sure they all have equitable supplies and teaches them how to keep organized notes and drawings. Every year my students eagerly await our painting unit as the coup de grace of the art experience they've built in their minds. Being able to provide every student with a watercolor pallet will ensure that this experience is not lost before they leave for high school, even in an atypical school year like 2020-2021. Students explore the different ways of mixing color and moving pigment across a paper using wet mediums to create artwork unlike any they've had the opportunity to before.
