My students are a high energy group of six and seven-year-olds who love to move! Due to safety precautions around COVID-19, the students will not be able to move around the classroom as much as they typically can. By giving the students kick bands and wobble cushions then the students have the ability to move at their seats while staying socially distanced! Research has shown that whole-body or active learning leads to an increase in memory and decrease behavioral issues. The cerebellum which is the part of the brain that works on coordination is also the portion of the brain associated with memory and focus. Having the ability to move in their seats will ultimately help with the students learning. The students will get to choose on Friday what sort of seating option they will have for the following week. This is an age-appropriate way for students to start learning how to advocate for their own learning needs and reflect on how they learn best.
