My students are a bunch of resilient young boys and girls who enjoy learning but, sometimes have trouble expressing feelings and emotions appropriately. These feelings and emotions are often displayed as disrespect, disagreements, disruptions, or just shutting down and refusing to do any work. Students often behave this way due to trauma or unfortunate life circumstances. As a result of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, our students have experienced even more trauma in their lives. Some of our students are learning virtual and some in person with social distancing standards in place. Having timely access to school counseling will allow students to process emotions and feelings related to any trauma they be experiencing and learn appropriate coping strategies so they can return to classroom learning. Anxiety levels are even higher due to COVID-19 protocols (social distancing, limited movement in the building, wearing masks, lunch in class, frequent hand washing, limited or no recess). In person counseling may be very limited due to COVD-19 restrictions. The tablets will allow students to access a counselor where they can see and talk to each other anywhere on campus. The tablets can be easily sanitized according to CDC protocol and then utilized by other students. This will increase the amount of students able to access the school counselor and increase more time in the classroom. Resilient students can navigate stressful situations. When students have the skills and the confidence to confront and work through their problems, they learn that they have what it takes to confront difficult issues. I am the only counselor on campus and I also provide counseling services to virtual students. Thanks for your help in fostering a generation of resilient students!
