As COVID continues to spread, the future has never felt so unpredictable. These are challenging times for us all, especially for children. Children with speech and language delay are feeling changes deeply, beyond language they could express. It’s extremely important for Speech-Language Pathologist to provide efficient communication skills both verbal and non-verbal support for children and their families. That’s why I request the donation to help my students and families express themselves in the positive way. The calm down tent is a safe space for student to go when he/she needs self-regulation or calming his or her body and emotion. A variety of items are included in the calm down space including the play tent, pillows, mat, weighted toys, and sensory toys. It’s a great way to help children avoid meltdowns that can occur during the session. To assist language development, I will use the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card to purchase digital tools, like Zones of Regulation. The tool is going to help students better understand how they process and respond to an implicit or explicit situation, their emotions system and develop a toolbox for self-regulation in everyday life. Additionally, in order to support parenting at home, I request some books for the parent’s lending library, including More than Words, CBT Toolbox for Children and Adolescents, Coping Skills for Kids Workbook, and The Color Monster. It will help parents recognize their child’s stage and style of communication and adjust everyday routines when needed to help child increase communication skills. I would also like to provide parents a toolbox and strategies when they want to learn how to improve emotional control, self-awareness, and problem-solving abilities. I greatly appreciate your support. It will help our children and families to have a peaceful and enjoyable life.
