Starting school in the middle of a global pandemic has me spending extra time thinking through ways to keep myself and my students safe and healthy. Flexible seating would allow for better social distancing and improve students' focus in the classroom. I always tell my kindergartners that my job is to keep them safe and to help them learn, and flexible seating would help me to do both! In regards to safety, the variety of seating options can help space my students farther apart for social distancing. Since I have both morning and afternoon kindergarten classes, these seats will be swapped out and sanitized between classes to cut down on the spread of germs. The storage containers will help control the spread of germs as well by allowing each kiddo to have a designated space for keeping his/her individual supplies that can be easily sanitized and stored. It's no secret that kindergartners like to move around! It's in their nature! Flexible seating will allow my students to take charge of their learning by giving them the opportunity to choose seating that works best for them. It will also increase their focus by allowing them to move and wiggle around while moving. While this coming school year may look very different, I am determined to give my kindergartners a safe learning environment and a fun school experience!
