Students are placed in my class because their emotional and mental health needs prohibit them from learning in a general education class. They are between 5 and 12 years old with academic skills ranging from preschool to high school. Although our school has families from a wide-range of socio-economic backgrounds, the majority of students in this class are from the lowest bracket. In fact, many of the students have been homeless in the last year. These students spend much of their energy trying to keep mind and body focused and work diligently to remember the steps to take when anger or fear is overwhelming. In addition to all the academic standards that their same age peers master, they also learn social skills and problem solving skills. With the diverse learning styles and learning needs, supplemental materials are critical for success. Thank you for considering a donation to help them.
