With COVID19 creating uncertain times both in and out of school, these supplies for our school garden will help students feel connected to their learning with hands on and REAL world experience. It is a chance to get outside of the sterilized classroom and provide real world skills. The garden helps us solve the problem of food insecurity and food injustice in our community, thus creating concrete connections between curriculum (virtual or in person) and the real world. Many of our student live in food deserts which are linked to obesity, heart disease and diabetes. Studies show that when students have a connection with where their food comes from, they are more likely to eat healthier and try new foods.
