As a first year teacher, I have a limited collection of books that focus on diverse characters similar to my students. My personal teaching philosophy is dedicated to differentiation, advocacy, and building community through the acquisition of resources. As a LA resident and Latina, I have experienced the diversity and strengths of the schools I have not only grown up in, but have taught in. I am dedicated to the transformation of educational opportunities for students from culturally diverse backgrounds. My students are avid readers, and I would love to supply them with books that include more Black and Latinx characters. My goal is to provide my students with a curriculum that promotes student identity and realize their power with characters that face similar challenges. In order to meet the specific and diverse needs of all of my learners, my students need access to books that are not only engaging, but empower their identity and voice. With the onset of remote learning, my students have further access to relevant literature centered around POC. Please help me fund books that I can send home to my students to influence their sense of belonging and achievement. The books I am requesting are representative of all students and include a variety of genres. Thank you for supporting our community of learners.
