I am a high school Spanish teacher. In my classroom, I am able to help my students travel around the world with a click. Now, however, I don’t have the resources at home to do this. Not only that, but I don’t even have the resources at home to create good videos and recordings for them for virtual instruction. A virtual Spanish class requires students to record speaking presentations. Using a MacBook with more hard drive space, I will record part A of simulated conversations, to which students will respond. Also, students will send me presentations. I will create a database of those presentations. Students will hear presentations made by their classmates, and respond by speaking and/or writing. Students will also benefit from Virtual field trips I create for them. I will collect photos and videos from myself, other teachers, friends, etc. to create virtual field trips for them. While students are quarantined, they will get to see parts of the Spanish-speaking world. Not only will they get to see parts of the Spanish-speaking world, but they will also hopefully feel like they are escaping their quarantine as they use their new language. Having a laptop for a good memory will allow me to carry more engaging lessons to bring the Spanish speaking world into my students’ homes. In my actual classroom, SmartBoard is used to deliver these lessons to students. Since we will be learning virtually instead, I will not be able to use this resource. I would like to still be able to bring the world into my students’ homes. As a recent cancer survivor, personal funds have all gone to my treatment. My students were so supportive of me, and I want to continue to give them quality virtual instruction!
